A heartfelt tribute to a marvelous Christian woman...
Anne Campbell, 1936-2022... Faithful servant, your race is won.
Last night, via a text from my mom, I learned that my childhood friend, Kevin’s mother had died, and it hurt. Kevin and his siblings - Doug, Carolyn, and Beth - lived down the street (four houses from ours) in 1970, and, looking back, I split time, spending as many hours under their roof as my own. It was, in formative years, a second family, and its anchor was Mrs. Campbell, a statuesque woman who, sun or storm, rain or shine, was as calm as the Savior she followed and served. Being young, I didn’t recognize it, but the way she carried herself, the way she spoke, her demeanor, oozed grace, that thing which believers are to “shine before men.” Being around her was like knowing an angel, a rudder, because she knew Jesus deeply and possessed holy light.
So when I heard, I wept, choked-up, but not long, for I knew heavenly seraphim were joyous, that cherubs were cherubing, and that Christians, in a conga-line, were making Mardi Gras look sedate.
Later, on Facebook, I came across Duncan, her grandson’s, grad ceremony, a photo of Anne, to which he added: You are gentle yet you are my Rock… I cannot ever thank you enough for the support you have given me… Your kindness and wisdom are blessings I will never forget… The way you live your life has impacted me since before I could understand it… I owe you everything yet you ask for nothing… You embody your savior every day… I love you forever.
And he’s not alone… Perusing comments, there and elsewhere, you understand that she helped people profoundly. She was a beacon of light, a loving soul. The power of love and meekness may be “quiet,” but it roars, often unseen, in the darkness. You see in the pictures here real Spirit, divine calm, inner-glow.
Indeed… In 2015, on Mother’s Day - number 80 - Kevin posted: Happy Mothers Day to the most loving, beautiful, patient, kind, committed, faithful, faith-filled, wonderful, pure-hearted woman I have ever known! … Are you sure you’re my Mom?
Oh, she’s your mom, pal... And you’ll see her again. Loss is temporary, but glory is forever… And rarely have angels trumpeted so loudly, so, so rambunctiously, as when Anne entered Heaven… It’s Party Time, brother, and this doesn’t end.
Your Mom was an angel, a Guiding Light to us all.
