The Uvalde debacle demands a question: What has happened to American MALES?
John Wayne, this isn't
I am sick to my stomach. Stunned. Mad as hell. The more we learn about Uvalde, the mass shooting, the more we see, in relief, a total breakdown, a decimation of the social contract. To protect children, to SERVE, and, when danger presents, run aggressively toward it is the job of policemen, sheriffs, and fire-fighters. The former carry guns not for show, but as TOOLS OF THE TRADE, and their trade, in this capacity, is the saving of lives and the risking of their own.
But police in Uvalde? Not so much. They ravaged the social contract. This, from Bill Melugin, Fox reporter, explains: Texas Department of Public Safety says the shooter fired over 100 rounds in the classroom and was inside the class and firing for two minutes before a team of local police officers entered, were fired upon, then pulled back and left the building…
WHAT? … Pulled back??? There were cops in the hall - ARMED police - at 11:35 a.m., two minutes after the gunman entered, but when shit got real, they decided police-work, Meh, not for them?
This appears to be the case.
The door, according to Melugin (confirmed by the Dep’t of Public Safety), was un-breached for seventy-five minutes, until 12:50, as the gunman released fire…
The mind reels… The body. Police outside the building, dozens of them, didn’t merely refuse to go in, but “setting up a perimeter,” and as hysterical parents TRIED to defend their babies, prevented others from doings so. Parents willing to DIE. Parents ACTING like cops.
Cuffed. Stymied… As police stood down.
But hey, post-slaughter, they “cleared things up”: “With the benefit of hindsight, where I’m sitting now, of course it was not the correct decision,” said Steven McCraw, Director of the Texas Department of Public Cowardice… It was the wrong decision, period. There is no excuse for that. Again, I wasn’t there, but I’m telling you, from what I know, and what we believe, there should have been an entry, you do that as soon as you can.”
What the @#$#%@??? Tell the parents, Stevie, the Moms and Dads—you SHOULD HAVE entered??? WHY DIDN’T YOU? Who breached protocol, who let children die?
A failure of protocol, of procedure, of common sense, but on a more profound level, a failure of manhood… How did we get here? When did cowardice usurp bravery? On 9-11, heroes went in, gave their lives to save others. In Uvalde, police let children die because to go in would’ve endangered POLICE???
I remember a day when first responders responded.
What happened? Why? Where are the heroes?
Our culture has broken down, with manhood the casualty. The vacuum of courage that occurred stuns the mind—a vacuum that lingers over 21 graves… Nineteen children who will laugh no more… Nineteen families - and a community - decimated… Nineteen children failed by failed “men” for whom courage, honor, and duty are foreign concepts.
This is “progressive” blight. We reap what we sow, and what we’ve sown is destruction—a world where men acquiesce to humiliation, reject masculinity, and abandon the vulnerable… The Uvalde police symbolize larger problems—problems John Wayne manhood can fix.
But Big John, well, he symbolized “inequality”… “Toxic masculinity.” See how that works? It seeps into culture… Rots the social fabric. And, in the void, the sickening vacuum, we don’t protect children…
We bury them, instead.
