Wow... Our health care system is a criminal racket

This actually HAPPENED... I lived it.

“I have health insurance and DON'T WANT to use it, I want, for an MRI, to pay out of pocket and not abuse the system, but am being told that I MUST use my policy, that I cannot self-pay. Good grief—if I buy a car will they make me drive it?  This is nuts.  An Orwellian fascist scam.”

Stunning, that’s the word.  I’ve been having a shoulder issue (getting old sucks), so yesterday, I decided to schedule an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Image), to see what’s going on.  Not hard: shoulder owie… Need pics.  So I contacted a clinic, Premier Radiology, to arrange an appointment.

But, of course, I needed a referral… Can’t walk in, be imaged, THEN see the doctor.  No, you have to pay (office visit: $250) to be told your shoulder hurts and you need an MRI.  Insurance REQUIREMENT…  Duh.  They make money - gobs - from this sham.  Pointless expense BEING the point.

But it gets worse… I recently obtained coverage (first time in 30 years), and figured, since my deductible is high ($7000), I should start to meet it.  Still, regardless of who’s paying, price matters, so I asked and was informed that “insurance would bill me”… That THEY set the price.

WUT?

I’d be covering 100%.  No, I said, I do not want their price.  They gouge the system, TRIPLE the clinic’s rate.  Blue Cross: $1500.  Self-pay: $500.

I said, “I’ll self-pay.”  She said, “You can’t”…  Huh?   I said, “Whadya mean?”  She said (I am NOT joking) that if you’re insured you HAVE to use your policy, you CANNOT pay on your own, and if you do and they find you’re covered, you’re charged the difference, the SCAM.

Hoooly…. Obamacare.   The scam price is the result of subsidization, dollars flowing to thieves.  And individuals who don’t WANT TO PARTAKE, who, being moral, opt out are forced to abet the scam.  By being “insured,” you HAVE to raise costs, pay penal prices, and enrich bad people.  You cannot, thanks to cronyism, act responsibly.

I told the gal, “That’s a crime.  It’s outrageous.”

She said, “We no longer live in a free country.”

Correct.
